Ken Smith has been Chairman of EH Smith since 1959, when he took over the reins following the death of his father Howard, who founded the company back in 1922. After almost 80 years, at the age of 96, Mr Smith is still driving himself to work five days a week, putting in a full working week. His long term commitment was this week recognised at the Birmingham Post Business Awards, where he received a special Lifetime Achievement award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for the 96-year-old classic car enthusiast Mr Smith was saved till the end of the ceremony, to mark and celebrate an inspirational entrepreneur.
Mr Smith has seen EH Smith grow from strength to strength through the decades, despite struggles during times of recession, and war. Mr Smith remembers as far back as accompanying his father Howard on a horse and cart whilst making deliveries in Birmingham.
Join us in praising Ken for his fantastic achievement and contribution to both the local economy as well as the construction industry.
